Hey all, here's a Stone Mountain I picked up last weekend in Vegas. Went to the show in search of buffalos for my herd but all dealers either didn't have the dates I need or the quality was too high $$$. Ended up with this commem that was on my want list for awhile.
Phoenix21 Wow. That is neat! If I may I ask, how much did you pay? The coin is graded MS65 by NGC and I bought it for a decent price
Ed. There are some people that only collect circulated coins and I know you know that so be nice please Bruce.
There was one day a few years back I went through the Red Book and made a want list of coins I thought "looked nice". Of the early commems, there were four that I wanted and this was the last purchase. The other three were: Oregon, California and Pilgrim. I think I'll take a look back and see if any of the other early commems turn my crank. I like the Spanish trail but holy $$$$.
Very nice commemorative. Any of the early commemoratives are a good buy. They seem to go up some every year. I love them and wish I hand more then I do, but as already stated they are $$$$$$$$$.
Okay, lol. Sorry, I'm sometimes really nosey. I don't know what those coins go for, but I can only imagine. It is a very nice coin. Glad you like it. Phoenix
Buffalo. I will be getting the Oregon for my type set because I just love that coin and the stone mountain for my type set because it was the year my mother was born. And I agree with you the Spanish trail is the holy grail of early commems hope to have one someday congrats again. Bruce.
That is for sure! about 2 K to be exact! But it is a nice coin. Good luck on the Oregon Bruce! And nice coin again Buffalo! Phoenix
I would not necessarily agree here. I know that early comemoratives are usually fairly abundant in uncirculated grades making it unnecessary to have to settle for a circulated example. However, some people, including myself, like natural looking circulated examples at the right price. In addition to an MS-65 Stone Mountain, I also own a nice high end XF piece with great color that I love as well. I also know of someone specifically assembling a set of "pocket piece" commemoratives, with original color and in the lowest grade possible.
