Hey all, I am very dry on finding anything for a whole month, but this is the only thing I found. Looks neat though. This gives me chance to say Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and to others Happy and safe Holidays!!!
From what I can tell, MD's with nice eye appeal are bringing a premium. In some cases, rather nice premiums. I'm not talking about uninformed purchases, either, but by people that know what they are buying.
I'm not either, Chris, but I tried to explain this on another forum. One guy tried to make me look like a dummy. Some folks collect extreme MD. It's just a fact. I mean, things that are labeled correctly. Not MD labeled as a doubled die. Look at sold listings on eBay. Stuff labeled as machine damage/doubling is selling. I guess some of the new crowd likes it. I can't say anything. I like trails & the minor doubled columns. I'm not gonna buy them. I can find them searching. To each his own, I guess.
Okay, I'm stupid. I assumed as it was a thread about state quarters, MD was abbreviated Maryland. I just caught on that it is a state quarter with a Machine Double strike! Presumably a MD state quarter with a MD has one helluva mark up
You guys can "buy" what you want, but there are collectors capable of thinking for themselves and find SOME MDs collectible. That's a fact!
Totally sorry if you guys thought Maryland but um nooooooo I did have the full pictures which um shows New York Very nice to see all the responses to this though MD or md or not Got ten rolls of cents to look at wish me luck!!!! Be safe this holiday season all, especially our experts out there, don't want to lose any of ya all ;-) Merry Christmas!!!
LOL! If we don't bother reading the entire thread or post, what makes ya think we'll bother to look at all the pictures?
That's what I was talking about, OEG. I wouldn't purchase one, but they definitely sell. I tried explaining this on another forum & one guy did everything but call me stupid. Like you and I said, it's just a FACT.
Gee with no ethics, one could go on fee bay...And sell them as errors...but some us just can't tell a lie. your pic shows Machine Doubling...flat shelf like... read that one post Learn about doubling...tons of good info and pics by the fricso kid....super inforinformative good luck
I have sold a couple extreme MD memorials. But of course listed it as machine doubling and even stated it wasn't an error or a doubled die. There is a small market out there.
I've actually bought a couple. I think extreme examples are rather scarce. In all honesty, I've never really understood the exclusion of mechanical doubling. I understand it is passed down from Alan Herbert. Seems much more collectible than waffle coins, for instance, to me. Whether they are "errors" or not by some definition, is of little interest to me.
