Today I went to the california science center to see the Pompeii exhibit that was going to close in a few weeks. I had a fairly good time but it went pretty quick. What was amusing was the "XXX" portion of the exhibit was pretty bare & was closed off, to kids of course. But considering thats one of the popular draws to roman history to the average person I was surprised to see it so sparse. The coins were a joke, one little box on the wall with coins mostly of Vespasian, Titus and many Roman Republics, most in bad shape. Couldnt get a good photo of it. As usual coins are an after thought. Couldnt see the reverse of them. I took over 60 pictures & if you have a facebook account, you can view them publicly without being a friend, if you dont have facebook account, then I guess your out of luck. Link to the photos are below. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10203434492283431.1073741825.1246329770&type=3
Looks like some interesting items. I'm pretty sure I would enjoy it. But then again, as my wife always says, I'm easily amused.
If you ever get to see the real thing, you should. One thing that impressed me was how Mt Vesuvius dominates the skyline.
some cool stuff mat, i dig the surgical tools, the naughty frescos, and the armor was very neat. ptolemy bust was also awesome....many neat things.
I think the following applies to here as well... At least that unemployed Roman office worker probably had an interesting conversation starter
