That is awesome! Get a clearer pic and post it in the Ancients section. A very cool gift!

Ya...probably what I'm getting for Christmas. Santa knows I've been bad...:(

This Christmas I want the 50th anniversary Kennedy Set. Only the world knows what will happen if I don't get it! Haha

It probably is, but just the crushed remains from other uses for jewelery, etc. But it is way too kitschy and not a valuable object.

    Loving the profile picture though!

    I will. :)
Spent a few minutes trying to figure out what it was (my ancient identification skills are understandably lacking lol), but per the flip it's in it is an Antoninianus (Cohen 67). Minted 260-269 per the interwebz. Gorgeous.

That is a very nice Postumus. You should do a little research. If you need help, ask us weirdos over on the Ancients forum.

That is a very nice coin of Postumus! Here is a link describing the fellow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postumus His image is frequently compared to Santa Claus. Perhaps that is why your secret Santa sent it your way. (BTW, I was not your secret Santa).:)

Edit: I see that Bing beat me to the basic ID on your ancient coin. The legend on your coin is very clear & easy to read. You can probably look it up easily on www.wildwinds.com

Im right there in the group that the anticipation got the best of them. I got my gift today and my (not so) secret santa outdid himself! Thank you! These coins were struck by the Moonlight Mint (Daniel Carr!) 300 copper, 200 silver and just 9 gold coins were struck to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Glendale Coin Club in California. Very clever 55 doubled die design for the 55th anniversary;) I always enjoy looking at the Moonlight Mints creations! 64 Peace dollar, 1861 confederate $20 and 1964 franklin halfs have been my favorites but I have never bought one. Well, now I have TWO to add to my collection! Thanks again, secret santa! SubstandardFullSizeRender-3.jpg SubstandardFullSizeRender-4.jpg

I couldn't wait till Christmas.. I made it a few days though.. :)

Santa very thoughtfully wrapped these as he traveled around the world. Looks like he has an affinity for South America.. Who wouldn't?

Some of the coins in here included a nice 1924 Canadian 5 cent piece (and a 1950 Beaver 5 cent piece) that one of my sons drooled over as an upgrade to his Canadian sets.

Also had a very interesting 1982 US cent with unusual gas bubbles under the copper layer. Can't say I've seen one like that before.
