I had a credit note with an AH so was trying my best to buy something last night but many of the coins like 1950's proof sets sold for more than they were available for in same condition on e-bay. Anything reasonably desirable got lots of interest.....anyway I got this 1896 Morgan for about $50 inc commission....will try and find something else in their next auction in a few days to make up the rest of my credit note. Just saw 'post your Morgan dollar! Whoops...

I tried fixing your white balance, just so I can could see your coin better. Thought you might like to take a peak:

Not to be rude about the auction house but their grades are utter fiction......so I would not think they have any idea about VAM either. My financial circumstances changed in March so I no longer buy very expensive coins...though I still buy a lot of coins lol.

I don't see convincing evidence of cleaning lines. I'm guessing MS63. Lots of minor contact marks on devices and fields. Looks to have some luster left as well.

The luster impairment makes the piece look cleaned to me.

Understood. It would be nice to see this coin on an angle too.

Paper flips always hide or make photos looks worse than in hand.

Looks like a "scratchy MS" to me.
