Aelia Flaccilla AE4, Antioch, AD 383-388.

OBV: AEL FLAC-CILLA AVG, Diademed and draped bust right.

REV: SALVS REI-PVBLICAE, Victory seated right, inscribing Chi-Rho onto shield set on column. Mintmark AN Epsilon.

    REF: RIC IX Antioch 64

This is my 90th Roman Imperial ruler since I started collecting 3 years ago. But I ain't done posting coins yet. So hold your horses. lol

Since I won that contest I was talking about before, it made this coin cost $0, normally it was the rather high price of $40. Can't beat that price, right Bing? lol

Surprised it would have been $40, but it is in good shape for a little AE4. Mine was from the same dealer for $36 and its the bigger AE2.

I sold my inferior AE4 compared to yours for $50, odd.

That is strange about the price and then I would never pay $50 for it. I've seen some Aelia Flaccilla coins for around $25-$30 that's an acceptable grade but not better than the one I purchased, for similar AE4 coins.

Both of your coins look good when compared to mine. But only gave $10 (about $13 shipped):

Wow, you "again"?!! ... another very sweet pick-up (congrats)

Well, on the "old" ERIC-II Rarity Scale, this was #93 ... but on the "new" ERIC-II Rarity Scale, Aelia Flaccilla has rocketed to #112 (yup, that's a very cool score, my friend)

Yeah, a lot of my coins took a rarity hit on the scale such as my Flavius Victor and Hannibalianus coins. I'm going to be doing a new ERIC 2 rarity scale later with the updated list. It's a lot of work so it will take awhile.

I think I already posted an Aelia Flaccilla coin with the Empress holding a censer with her left hand. Wildwinds do not refer to it as a listed coin on the RIC's. The coin was struck in Antioch, if I remember well.

Very nice but a rough AE2. I think I'll look into getting a AE2 sometime later in the future.

Is she really holding a censer ? Was it a Christian symbol, especially for a pious woman like Aelia ? Is there a RIC number?
