This story has many twists. If I remember correctly, there is a fight over ownership. Seems the man that found the coin was on someones property, and there is some law about single item finds or something close to that. Maybe someone here remembers the story better than I do.

Now I took up metal detecting this year, and unlike most others, my "BEST" coin find has been a 1972 Quarter that was corroded. I have found some jewelry and I get plenty of exercise (worth every dime I paid for the detector).

I actually think I have the magazine that has that story in it, I've got a couple of older metal detector magazines that are just layin around.

I started THing about 2 years ago. Bought an old (91') whites eagle spectrum. Found only one silver dime, and that was a rosie and a few wheat cents. I have to admit that I only go to parks and schools, which are searched out. I must say that I have pulled out close to 300$ in change. Best day was 18$ in 2 hours. Also found over 12 silver rings.

Its a great sport!! Small gold is hard to find because it comes in around the pulltab to bottle range.
