Collectibles Quality Assurance Company, LLC is the newest addition to TPG's but will only be grading modern M.S., U.S. coins. Run by Gary Knaus & John DeRocker out of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. They will be accepting submissions at the Jan. 7th FUN Show in Orlando, Fl. This includes Lincoln Cents through Presidential dollars and all American Eagles, both silver & gold. Details on how to submit can be had at QACoins.com. FYI.
Collectibles Quality Assurance Company LLC to begin grade verification for modern U.S. coins Jan. 7 at FUN Service only available for PCGS-, NGC-certified coins From Coin World 12/01/2014 "James Sego, president and head grader of the new entity, said the firm will place its QA✓ sticker on certified Professional Coin Grading Service- and Numismatic Guaranty Corp.-encapsulated coins that meet the company's criteria. The new entity was established in Idaho after Sego moved his numismatic ooperations, JMS Coins, from Chicago."
That's a brilliant plan. Micro grading coins fresh from the factory, with no real expertise or experience needed, to perform a useless task with no question of authenticity to worry about, just a new layer of quality control for the mint. And best of all, funded by the sort of obsessives most likely to play their MS (or BS) lottery in a futile quest for ever higher numbers so the other obsessives can trade the imaginary market of pseudo rarity in coins that they can buy unmediated by these parasites for a few dollars or less. What ever happened to coin collecting? What ever happened to people using their own skill and judgement to collect coins with a bit of history to them? PS Just read the post above and sheesh, they take parasitic 'services' to what is either a higher or much lower level, depending on how you look at it. Anyone subscribing to this would be on my mailing list for Brooklyn Bridge lottery tickets and million dollar from Nigeria offers at once, since they will clearly fall for anything.
It is pretty ridiculous to have modern coin authentication. Especially when they are only verifying PCGS and NGC grades. It would make more sense to try and bridge the gap between those top two and other TPGs. Even still it's pretty useless without actually assigning a grade (only accurate, under or over graded sticker). The only possibly intriguing thing (in my opinion) is collecting their sticker. Maybe that will someday be a sought out collectible, albeit unlikely. But with all the different tangents coin collecting has now who knows.
PPS. As a special service I will charge you $20 to confirm the grades the grade confirmers assign. Special offer, no need to send me the coins, I'll just send you a sticky plastic label to add to your coin's plastic coffins. Words fail me. In the old days, rains of blood, strange comets and a plague of unicorns would have been signs of portentious events. This innovation seems to me a sign of a hobby vanishing up its own fundamental orifice.
They are not a TPG. They don't grade or encapsulate coins -- they just affix stickers based on whatever undocumented willy-nilly personal internal standard they create. There is a big difference.
Good news everyone! I'm starting an authentication service! Send me your coin and I will verify that it is a coin. I will put a sticker indicating whether yes, it is a coin, or no, it's a hunk of round metal. I only charge $50 per verification (shipping NOT included). Oh and I only verify PCGS and NGC. Thanks!
Yeah what a joke. I felt this way about wings when they were just starting and offering free service. I guess we should throw cac in there as well. I know I can't stand it when I see a dealer at a show with only cac sticker slabs.
I believe that you've missed the point. QA is not simply verifying that its a coin. They are selling their opinion on where the coin falls within the grade. Solid for the Grade, over graded, undergraded. As long as there are TPG's there will be a need to validate the assigned grades on the slabs since TPG's have been known to make errors in judgment during their 5 second viewing of a particular coin. QA is designed to address Modern Coinage which CAC simply will not touch. I trust James Sego's opinion and would gladly pay to have him look at my coins. Especially if I, were going to sell them because as a relatively unknown seller, my word would have little weight in the Coin Buying Community.
I know I cannot stand it when a dealer has a ridiculous markup on a coin that he swears is undergraded by the TPG.
Any affiliation? I am assuming not because you classified them as a TPG, however, if your role was simply a promotional one, you may not necessarily have even read their business model or mission statement. Just curious.
I feel so slow because I cannot put together the joke here. I feel like I am about to get it and it's just not clicking. Can you finish the line, or explain who the "they" are, and if it is a jest at those people who would even stand in line for such a silly service? My OCD is completely tweaking out here, this is in no way a stab at you, I really am just that slow that I cannot figure out what the posts intent/punch-line/joke is.
If they are standing in line at the FUN show for the service.......... You'll see turkeys voting for Christmas? They think it's the queue for the john? It's a really brilliant idea for a business? You'll see who really would take wooden nickels? Their carers have gone off and left them there? Someone paid them $20 apiece to make it look popular? and so on, and so on, give it a try!
Oh no. Meow it is even worse. In trying to explain what is apparently obvious to all other readers with multiple humorous examples, I find myself even more confused. I am going to go wash my hands a few times, pace the upstairs den, and contemplate why I cannot get this simple joke. I feel like Elaine Benes when she didn't understand the comic strip that the New Yorker published.
Now you get it ! If you feel like Elaine Benes it must be ......... Purely fictional. The answer is absolutely anything you like............ There are no certainties. At a quantum level all apparent reality is unreal.
