I only have four so far but I wanted to make a collage like some of you have recently done so I thought that this would be an easy one to make, since, like I said there's only four coins, and also because all of them have almost the same kind of background. (click to enlarge) Both coins in the first row and the first of the second row are deniers of Louis the Pious (Charlemagne's son), and the second coin of the second row is an obol of Charles the Bald (Louis's son). Clockwise the mints are Metallum, unknown, Metallum (Metullo on the coin), and Venice (which, oddly enough wasn't officially a Frankish city but made Carolingian coins anyways). Cool history on the Carolingians courtesy of Encyclopaedia Britannica: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/96523/Carolingian-dynasty (click to enlarge)
A handsome set, and nicely imaged. Are you planning to add more Carolingian coins to your collection?
wow => very cool collection, my Jangly friend!! (you are definitely becoming Mr. Carol!!) ... ummm but sorry, every single time that I get a chance, I'm gonna unleash the beast!! => cha-chinnnggg!!!
Okay Steve, yours is nice too... Cool st VK. I'd love to have some carolingian coins to add to my collection of french coins (none yet), but as you say, they are a bit pricey, and one can't ride too many horses at the same time Q
