No doubt! What's the value on an impaired proof large cent? I've never seen one for sale that I can think of
Thanks!! Working on a complete set of trades with proofs except 84-5. I want toning and original color Just like the 80 proof when this came up at ha I said to myself I'm GOING to own it!! Is an au -55 I paid low ms money for it
Me either! Is a very cool score! Reminds me of the ct member I don't remember who that had a Pf 12 Morgan
Well Bill, lately it seems with Trade Dollars you have to pay up for quality. Wish I'd started collecting them about 10 years ago when the series was all but forgotten.
Me too or I'd been this serious about coins 10 years ago always loved them but I've only been online since around late 2009 so I didn't realize that all the coins I always wanted and never seen local were an email away (if you got the money) as to trades bought one for my type set then another and a couple more then a proof then I realized this is what I really want to collect (along with early dollars) as it's such a challenge to find nice original ones. I'll complete the set May take me 20 years but the results will be stunning
2014 has been a very good year for my ancient coin collection but this is definitely my favorite SICILY, Syracuse. Agathokles (317-289 BCE) 310-305 BCE AR tetradrachm, 17.40 g, 24 mm Obv: head of the nymph Arethusa left, wearing grain wreath, earring and necklace; around, three dolphins; under, monogram (NK?) Rev: ΣYPAKOΣIΩN, fast chariot charioteer leads to left, holding reins and kentron; above, triskeles; in exergue, monogram Ref: Ierardi 12 (O2-R8); SNG Copenhagen 573 var., SNG ANS 637 ArtCoinsRoma, auction 8, Feb. 2014 The story of its acquisition is here.
I can't pick one favorite, but here are two exceptional Romans, Constantine the Great and his arch-rival Licinius I, the two of which plunged the empire into a civil war during the early 4th-century.
Probably this one. Not a rare die marriage by any means, but one that I had never found the right example.
This liberty cap large cent. Stole off eBay on a bad picture gamble, submitted to PCGS came back a VG8. I absolutely love this type and this coin was a mighty upgrade over my AG3.
Theres no way you can tell me that the Morgan Dollar wasnt inspired by this coin. I thought I was looking at a US Pattern at first
Honestly makes me think of the peace dollar too. Nearly all of the classic us coins especially in the mid to later 19th c were inspired by classical antiquities. So was architecture and furniture especially in the 1780-1850 period look at many early federal and Greek revival buildings from the White House on down and you'll see the influence They got it right 2000 years ago why mess with success!!
eek, looks like I bought 137 coins this year. Some were absolutely terrible buys, what was I thinking. Others were grand slams. I need to whittle that down to about 50. I'll post my favorites later
