image.jpg image.jpg My wife got me this as an early Christmas gift. She picked it up at the bank she works at. The only thing wrong with this note, is the minor crease in the middle. Other than that, it's a nice note.

Nice note! It's considerably scarcer than the 1966 variety.

That's what I've been reading. Just little over 500,000 were produced.

funkee is right, the B.E.P. a few years ago what ever they left on hand , they destroyed and now the 1966-a is rarer.

There were 512,000 printed, but it appears that only about 104,000 were ever released. The printing started at A00768001A, and the highest serials known are just under A00872000A.

Only 104,000!?!? Dang, this is surely rare. I didn't realize how significant it was. The ones that were released, they were destroyed? Are these being destroyed once it gets back to the Feds?

The BEP did not destroy anything. BEP no longer had the notes.

Federal law required a certain percentage of United States Notes to be in circulation. Treasury accomplished this by moving the required number of notes from storage to another location in the Treasury Department and made the entries on the books. The notes never left Treasury but were reported "in circulation".

Congress got rid of this requirement in the 1990s (?) and Treasury destroyed the remaining notes in their possession.

When United States Notes of any denomination hit the banking system they are supposed to be turned into the FRB who submits them to Treasury and they are destroyed.

Always liked the red pop on these notes and the printed "one hundred". Here is my framed collection, with the 66, 66*, and the 66A...
