Thats a nice start to a budding collection right there. What prompted your father to just give these to you?

Actually He stopped collecting a few years back. I have a brother wo just doesn't care. I care about everything old especially coins. I don't know if you know what this is but I found a cache of coins three years ago. A cache is a buried hoard of coins found while metal detecting. I found it at my cottage. Here is two links to see the coins found there and where it was found.

I think I have seen your post on that on Treasurenet, you may have seen me on there, coinman123. Very nice commemorative coins, I love them. Congrats on them, normally worth 1000s

Very nice job with the video. Looks like the two stones and the well were used as a marker to go back to later on after they were buried. Most old timers did not trust banks ages ago as they were too prone to default and corruption, so they buried them, hid in the attic or under floor boards, etc. The recent find in Ca. may well have been the cause of why those coins were buried or maybe just an outlaw who finally met his maker before he ever had a chance to get back to them. Lucky owners of that land.

A videographer, you're not. I made it through the first 15 seconds.

Got to give him a A for effort. Sure wish I had done this with all my digging over the years. I could have remembered where some of my dumps were. Now it's CRS. He'll learn as he goes and he can always do some editing later on.

    Nice coins,
Its nice that you want to continue what your father started.

Though the Oregon Trail is not extremely rare, it may be considered lower mintage but not rare. As for the NTC coins if you ever sell them they will disregard the grade on the slab as they are not a trusted grading company.

I love that 1877 Seated Quarter.
And FYI your 1871 fractional gold piece has a population of 74 in AU58 and is worth about $210.

EDIT: Here's an AU58 for those who want to see

Some nice coins. Echo the comments about the background noise and dizzy video.

Welcome to CT. This is a fun hobby and there's always something to learn.

I couldn't follow the film, far too jumpy.

    I couldn't focus on anything.

Thank you for all the support. A population of 74 What do you mean by that only 74 made?
