Is there such thing as a 1982D solid copper penny? How can I tell?

I don't see what you see...but as far as solid copper Lincoln cents, yes...1982 was a transitional year for the LMC, moving from 95% Copper\5% Zink to a Copper plated Zinc core planchet.

in 1982 there are, if my memory serves me correctly, 4 possible varieties of Lincoln cent.

    1982 Small Date Copper
    1982 Small Date Zink
    1982 Lrg Date Copper
    1982 Lrg Date Zink

Plus add in those with D or those without MM's. If memory serves there were 7 varieties, I just do not remember which one was not made.

OP, yours appears to be PMD, iow a beat up cent.
