is this wishful thinking or could it possibly be the real thing? if the picture is not good enough I will load another one either tonight or tomorrow morning. I will have to use a double loupe in order for it to be any larger than that.
I don't see much of anything, but if you're going to rely on one loupe on top of another, you'd better have a very, very, very steady hand. Otherwise, don't waste your time. I don't understand why some people want to collect varieties, first, and the proper photographic equipment later on. Chris
Chris, Some people don't try to collect varieties, some people happen to find a coin that is different and come on here to ask questions about them because the members on here are a lot more knowledgeable. This coin has some type of doubling on the date and mint mark. It is probably machine doubling and not die doubling, but still it is not normal. I don't own another camera besides my phone, I haven't needed one. I may consider investing in a USB microscope sometime soon just for the fun of it. Is there a particular brand you recommend? Please don't tell me to invest $500 in one. Thank you and sorry I frustrated you, Caleb
Caleb, your post hasn't frustrated me. It was just an observation. We get so many people here who want to know the value of a coin, but expect us to make a judgment based on inadequate photos. You're not the first to do this. I know there are lots of USB scopes on the market, but I have one of the conventional models that, YES!, did cost a lot more than $500. You'll just have to search some of the threads about USB scopes. My only suggestion is to avoid those made in China because you will probably never be able to get parts if and when you should need them. Also, I hate(!) the LED lighting. Chris
If you had one you wouldn't need a microscope, or even a loupe to see it. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/1969Sddo1.html
Here is a better picture I hope. I'm going to call this the poor man's 1969 S doubled die. For when you can't afford the real thing.
There are two DDOs that Im aware of and unforunately is not one of them. die #1 is as clear as day when you see it, die #2 has a slight doubling of the 9 & 6 in the date. This coin has some machine doubling.
Here is a rotated picture, I know it is a mechanical doubling, but cool none the less. I'm the only one I know who has one like this. Thanks for all the input and education. I have bought a new camera, so hopefully I can get better pictures in the future.
This looks close. The nine looks to be split? http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g232/coinsareus10/1969sDD-1.jpg
