1942-P Mercury Dime w/ Massive Die Cracks or Defaced Die?

    I picked this up for a $1.25 out the junk box.

    looks to be a defaced die or die cracks?

    anyone have any clues? mint employee defaced die? struck thru?

    Are they die scratches not die breaks?
    Looks neat can't wait for the others to say.

    It almost looks like the die split in those places. I hope Mike Diamond drops by.

    I've seen many coins crossed with raised lines similar to these. In all cases they were caused by dragging a thin, sharp blade across the coin at a shallow angle. This forces up a narrow flap of metal that is later either pressed down intentionally or flattened down by subsequent circulation. I think I can see the incision along the lower margin of the ridge that runs through WE TRUST.

    Kind of weird how the hair in some spots appear intact over it as well as how it goes through the Y and over the L.
