Does anyone know what these sets looked like? I've seen the Souvenir sets from the mint and the Krause publications sets, but not these. I've heard they are very nice sets if you want good uncirculated coins from those years.

just like an uncirculated set, but the souvenir sets were only sold at the gift shops at the mints in 82 an 83, search em on ebay, you'll find em...

"You're not going to find any singles worth slabbing from the gov't. souvenir sets of 1982 & 1983.
The P-mints were all "washed" at the mint and have a most unnatural (drab & very unappealing)
appearance. The D-mints sometimes come with adequate brilliant luster but the coins display the
    usual contact marks.

Best bet for slab candiates come from Krause sets as well as those assembled and sold by Paul & Judy's
    Coins (Illinois dealers.)

This is my experience with '82 & '83 sets."

These are great sets but everyone I've ever seen are badly tarnished. I'd remove the coins and stabilize them in acetone. Paul & Judy sets are quite good.

Anyone know if Revels made any sets in '82 and '83. I just found some of his '84 sets and they are very good and contain a type "d" reverse Philly quarter.

Thanks cladking; so you have seen sets like this one before? Do you know where they originate? From the pictures they don't look tarnished. I should have them in hand by early next week.

I've seen only a handful of them. I've never seen anything to identify them and usually call them California sets.

They're fine in the pictures. There should be some winners in them.

Thanks, I'm excited to get them; wasn't sure how to go about getting nice uncircs of these years for my modern sets. These will be broken up and distributed to my binders and hopefully will fit in well with the other years I've gotten from regular mint sets.

I'm curious. What state is the shipper in?

Best luck with the quality on these. It looks like the assembler looked for nice coins with nice strikes to make the sets. All the coins aren't great but there aren't many clunkers except for the pennies.

I'll have to check the shipping package, I don't see a location on the ebay posting. They unfortunately don't look as nice as they appeared in the pictures (seems to be common with coins on ebay) but they will do for now. The cents/nickels/dimes are pretty nice, but the quarters (especially 1983's) and the half dollars are fairly blah, though they do have cartwheel luster. I bought some Acetone and will probably try giving them a bath to see if that helps any.
