How do you store your coins?

I have been considering storage questions for my growing collection recently:

    1. Do I use archival flips or 2x2s?
    2. Do I store them in boxes with rows?
    3. I have even considered storing them raw in an old-fashioned mahogany coin cabinet.

I collect older world silver coins so there are varying sizes. I would like to know the thoughts of those here.

most of my collection is in 2X2's, some airtites, I do not do raw... I must protect them from getting scratched. :blackalien:

I stored a bunch of gold in a few cans once, I just don't remember where I buried them!

I have some on my desk, some in drawers, some on the floor, some in boxes, some in airtites, some in 2x2's, some in a safe, some in another safe, some on a bookshelf, some are in my daughters room somewhere, some have fallen behind my desk, one is missing in the laundry room, some are in rolls in various locations, some are on my window ledge, some are on top my dryer, and some are in my ash tray in my car.

haha, I do keep a few interesting change finds in my car charger cubby as well. Not worth putting in my collection, but don't want to spend them!

1st a question , what condition are your coins . Cardboard 2 X 2 s and flips don't help prevent toning they are ok for cheaper coins and circulated coins . Better coins deserve better protection like Intercept Shield 2X2s or airtights as they have hard shells and permit less air from getting to the coins . Also , I use silica gel containers to absorb moisture .

Yea, I go thru my change as I get it and sort it into a "look at later" container and the "spenders" go into bag to be taken to the change counter at the bank before Christmas.

I have a lot of junk silver that I keep in tubes. For the silver coins that I don't consider I have in air-tites. My gold coins I have all in air tites and put those all in a tube together.

I use almost exclusively 2X2s, they store well in a box, and I can write on them. I've gotten some flak for storing some pretty expensive stuff in them, but they seem to be an inert, safe storage option.

Airtites or slabs. About the only way to go with coins of any value. Everything else is in an album or a jar.

In my desk upstairs in my desk downstairs on my dresser on the nightstand on the table in the living room on my kitchen table on top of a couple of the mantles on the stand in the hall in a Manila envelope on a windowsill retoning a bunch at a fellow ct members house at pcgs at ngc and other places I forgot where I put em. Oh and a bunch in the safe those are just some of the places I got coins but most are slabbed or In archival flips. I don't much like cardboard 2x2s cause of the staples. And a bunch are just loose in drawers but those are just junk silver or real low end stuff I got a bunch in slab boxes too

Not that inert. Bought a cleaned half cent 20 years ago was red after 20 years in a 2x2 was 90% brown. Got rid of it a few months ago tho. But if you don't want em to tone as much I'd go the non pvc flip route. If you want color by all means use the cardboard but it's not inert

Most of my collection is about $50 a coin but a good number are in the $300 range. Does anyone go the coin cabinet route anymore?

For me storage really depends on the coin and the time horizon for me doing anything with it.

For long-term storage of high grade MS coins I use multiple layers: air-tite>2x2>binder page>ziplock bag with desiccant pack and sacrificial copper cent. Then another ziplock bag and then the bags go into a Tupperware container.

Short-term or common coins: I simply use tubes and the tubes go into ziplock bags. I also have a "spares binder" with 2x2's in pocket pages.

Thought about building one years ago. Is what I do for work (cabinetmaker /custom woodwork) When I got real serious again about 5 years ago was buying mostly slabbed the value is such I need a safe anymore. Slabbed stuff from $75 to $6500+

What are archival flips? PVC free flips, you mean? I got several binders with 2x2s in those plastic pages. These coins are anywhere from .25 cents to 5o dollars. I got world silver coins in a nicer binder that holds 2x2s. Tons of slabs in boxes. I put binders on bookshelf, some others in a plastic box with drawers and moisture absorbers thrown in. If I lived in Florida, I might worry. But my coins are all fine. Just try to put your slabs and 2x2s in almost air-tight boxes and such, which is obviously better than leaving them out. Can some one describe these air-tight holders? Are these those round ones my dealer sells for 2 or 3 bucks a piece in red packages? How do you store them? Throw them in a box or something? Pics would help too

If that link doesn't work, type the words 'airtite and captube' into the eBay search bar

Oh. Nice. Thank you. Not too expensive either. So there's no way to display them in a notebook? I'd imagine they'd make some thing like that
