At first I thought NGC was going to charge everyone $30/coin, but it appears if you want to purchase from one of the dealers, you can have them graded by NGC directly. Personally, I like to have the coins in my hands to look at before grading.
Ouch. That's almost 2x what Silver Price is at now. I will stick with Rounds as these can be very affordable.
Yeah, but thats only a '$10' grading fee if you are into having coins graded. I dont know of anywhere you can get freshly graded coins by one of the leading TPGs for so cheap. If you figure silver is at about $16 per ounce (give or take), plus $4 for the Silver Eagle Premium (again approximately), you are only talking about another $10 to have a graded coin. Some would think that is a GREAT deal, especially if they were considering sending in themselves. Now I agree with you, buy more silver and less plastic for your money. But some just want that fancy piece of plastic, even on a piece of bullion.
That's a terrible deal and would kinda suck. In that case I would wait until the secondary market hits.
Some would argue that a 65% reduction in grading fees would be a great deal. It's just exactly as you describe, all in how you look at it. Again I agree with you, I would rather buy another eagle with the extra money, but some people are into the plastic thing. I'll never understand why for common bullion.
I can picture a 1995 or 1996 Eagle being $30 but I won't spend that for a newly made 2015 (and these might be very common due to higher demand in silver).
As I read the announcement, any Eagle you submit in Jan and Feb has to go under early bird which is a $30 pop for each one PLUS your shipping to and from. Now you might get a break if you submit 100 or more, but that's a hefty cost for ER designation if you just have a couple for your collection you want graded. And then who gets priority in grading? Those three companies, of course, so they can market their coins right away before the smaller dealers. And just what are these guys going to charge for their immediately graded coins? This kind of smells ugly to me.
First they require us to pay $30/coin for the baseball coins, then $30/coin for the kennedy set, now these 2015 silver eagles. Does anyone see a trend? They appear to be taking advantage of the customer. If this keeps up we may have to switch back over to PCGS for our grading. This is what made me laugh Only one word.....Greed
Fourteen words and a number.....Would you really want to grade a coin with a mintage of over 40 million?
OR, perhaps purchase form one of the named dealers. GovMint is asking $37.95 for MS69's and $69.95 for 70's. Considering the costs associated with submitting your own, these prices seem extremely reasonable if you're into NGC Graded SAE's.
Yeah, my first post said that. It's only about a $10 grading fee if you can buy them from the named dealers for $30 each.
