There appears to be a S under the D. second thoughts? Value?

I see more crud than anything resembling a different mint mark.

Can't help that. Looks like an S right about the D

There does seem to be an S, but hard to tell what's crud and what's metal. I believe they used the "tall" mintmark in 1954:

Kinda looks like the pointy top serif appears on the surface of the D.

If it is an actual D over S that would be an awesome find.

There is also a curve of an S in the middle of the D

I think it is very interesting. If I owned it I'd consider sending it to an attributor for an opinion.

I'm definitely thinking about it. Too bad there's no way to safely remove the crud

Yes there is! Soak it in pure acetone. Not nail polish remover, pure acetone. You can get a nice jug at Walmart for around $7.

    Won't that be considered cleaning?

No. It's an accepted manner for removing debris from coins......

I really have a hard time seeing an "S". Maybe the acetone will help.

I think the genuine D/S varieties are more pronounced. The one I have slabbed has a decent part of the S hanging out of the bottom of the D.

The part above the D is decent, the crud just blurs it

Have you checked to see if there is a listed variety with the S above the D?

The only over mintmarks (OMM) I know of for Jeffersons are shown here on Mr Wexler's page:

There is a Cherrypickers variety RPM-003, but it does not look like your coin.
