It's not scarce. Your coin was minted between 1911 and 1926. Also, the reverse is just damaged. It was worn down somehow. You can see elements of the reverse design still where it isn't completely worn down.
How is that possible? Also, is the fact that its DDO have significance? I have also seen unifaces with partial detail
Many things are possible. How exactly it was done is known only to the person who did it (possibly over 100 years ago).
There is no doubt that unifaces can contain detail. Here is one just for example. I believe the strike didn't entirely compress.
I was wrong, you had two different coins up and I did not see that? it could be uniface but need better photos and my be to see in hand by someone that knows these very well !
Thanks deacon. There is all sorts of possible errors to this coin. I am going to get it looked at. Although there should not be a doubt in my mind. DDO uni face; that would be stellar.
Its not a uni-face penny at all. It is not rare. its a normal penny with excessive wear to the reverse caused by human manipulation.
Any idea on how this could have been manipulated? The information can be useful. This coin is in its full state, weighs the 9.4 grams its supposed to and looks like a uni face. Unless someone back in the day used some sort of machine to accomplish this, I still believe it was caused by the planchet. I don't think this coin would show such compression and have an almost perfect obverse with human hands. Although, that is just my opinion. it would be almost impossible unless machined and even then the machine would damage the front of the coin. I believe it was struck with the obverse safe when minted.
