    Well, I guess I score an "Epic-fail" on research-points ...

Ummm yah => I definitely admit that AJ, Doug, TIF and several others always seem to have such great background stories (man, they are far better coiners than myself) ... I kinda suck at the whole background research thingy ...

But man, I am fricken awesome at random and seemingly illogical coin-purchases!! (yup, I'm all over those babies!!)

    ... anyway ...

I paid a mere $40 Canadian for this sweet looking Byzantine beauty (man, that's almost free in US dollars!!) ......

thanks again, Batman (you rock, my friend) ... cheers

Justin II AE (*edit* Copper) Pentanummium

    565-578 AD
    Diameter: 14.7 mm
    Weight: 1.9 grams
    Obverse: Monogram
Reverse: Large E; K right (Constantinople mint => *edit* Cyzique Mint)

Byzantine Justin II a.jpg Byzantine Justin II b.jpg

=> Oh, and now I'm gonna go research this super sweet coin (see, it all works out in the end)

Cheers gang .... man, I love collecting ancient coins!! (100% AWESOME!!)

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

that's an excellent monogram pentanummium stevex, all marking are clear as a bell...that's not the case with most of these coins.

I didn't get a byzantine coin all year in 2014...i'll have to fix that in 2015.

Nice coin, though I wouldn't have known that as a Byzantine coin except for that large E on the back. And nice research. ;)

Hmmm, it's kinda funny how few of us collect Byzantine coins, eh?

... I probably own half a dozen of 'em, but again it's kinda rare that we post Byzantine coins (I can recall a few from chrsmat and Eng, etc ... but not too many posted compared to other ancient types, eh?)

... man, I love ancient coins (gawd, I wish that I had more coin-money!!)

    Steve;
Little would I wish to interrupt your research on the great little coin but there is an error in your listing information which you may want to correct. You can find it without a hint but I will point out that Mat's coin is a normal Constantinople issue with officina delta. Yours is the best of its type I have seen. There is just one like yours on acsearch for $139 (US - actually 95EUR). Theirs really stinks compared to yours.

Here's mine Steve, just like yours but the officina seems different. I didn't know they're as expensive as Doug mentioned. I feel lucky today.. Yup.. man... MonogByz R.jpg MonogByz.jpg

They are not. However you can always find someone willing to charge you more. Less takes more looking.

Doug => not surprisingly, I am still a bit confused (I found the coin that you were referring to, but I don't know what is incorrect about my original info?)

    http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?term=justin II Pentanummium&category=1-2&en=1&de=1&fr=1&it=1&es=1&ot=1&images=1&currency=usd&order=0&company=

ooh, maybe I'd better translate a few things first, eh? (okay, I'll be back in a sec)
