I still have my vintage Bounty Hunter from the 80's and a newer Tesoro but with none of the newer bells and whistles, strictly tonal. My first find, which I will post when I find it, was a 1700's Dutch East Indies coin found in the field behind my Dad's farm. Not worth much but a keeper for nostalgia purposes. What was your first find and what else have you found over the years. What do you use and please post pics of your finds. This could be fun and informational. Thanks!
Here`s the last batch of 100 or so copper & brass 19th,18th,17th century coins and tokens I found in the summer, lots of GeoIII Halfpennies, all gone in the scrap bin.
I`ve posted this before but it was an interesting find less than 100 metres from my door. around 15 years ago 1st century Celtic pommel from a dagger handle, its made of lead with an iron neck. I found a 14th century silver penny in the same area.
My first find was a nail. My first colonial coin was a 1723 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. So far my oldest coin is a 1655-1658 Louis XIV Liard, also a 1696 William III Halfpenny. I also found a couple George II Halfpennies, one turned into a buzzer toy. A few Large Cents, an 1861 New Brunswick Half Cent with less than 5,000 known to exist. I also have some nice colonial relics. I am also member of a metal detecting forum
Which would lead us to believe that Columbus was not the first to discover the America's. So much controversy over that. It could have been brought in later by immigrants and lost, but... The same issue still exists in Newport, R. I. over what's left of a foundation tower.
Very nice! Most of my finds have not been coins but old implements centered aroud old foundations, fields, etc. I'll bring home everything, decide what is worth keeping and scrap metal the rest. Have found many old carriage and wagon wheels, plow shares and a really nice 1850 axe head and brush grubber. Both are pretty well shot but still nice finds. For me it's all about the history behind the finds, taking yourself back in time.
