A couple of months ago I bought a grouping of eight '65 Special Mint Sets from a person on this site. They were in the original shipping container with the original owners addy still on it, which I thought was cool indeed. When they arrived I inspected them and was rather satisfied with the overall quality of my purchase......then filed them away. Today, in the error forum, there was a question regarding a dime in a '65 set and I thought to myself, why not check my sets and see if I have something similar? So out comes the loupe, and I'm lookin' at all the dimes, when suddenly my eye is drawn to one of the Kennedy halfs. The truncation at the bottom of the 'I' in Liberty looks a little odd. I put the loupe on it and see this....... Look at the top of the 'I' where a small raised line appears. Pay no attention to the bottom scratch as that's on the pilofilm. So I check the other sets to see if the same anomaly exists and low and behold it does on 7 out of the 8 sets! added a little contrast so you can see it better. And through the 'Y' in Liberty too....... Sorry for the poor photos but all I gots to shoot with is a 'point and shoot'. If I find many more of these things I'm gonna have to get one of Alans' (coinzip) Dino Lites.....
It could be a die scratch, but it doesn't look very straight. So, I'm inclined to think it is a die crack. A better close-up would help. Chris
Cracks. Both appear to go through the letters. Although not impossible, very difficult for a scratch.
