I never roll coins of any kind. Why not just return them in a bag rather than roll them? They must have to count them anyway. Are you sure your bank isn't jerking you around so that you will stop bugging them for rolls of coins? Try slapping a bag in their teller window and saying that you want to deposit the whole lot. See if they use a counting machine rather than wasting their time counting out your bag. If they won't do it, I'd get another bank. Who works for who here?

I'll ask to see if they have a counting machine....but I don't think they do...

    Coinstar machines in the U.K.

That website also mentions that there are even Coinstar counting machines in the U.K. as well.I wish we had such a system over here in New Zealand.

I spent over eight years working in banks, and we would have told you to keep your deposit. Tellers are not slaves.
If they have a coin counter I am sure that they'd be glad to count the coins, however, they are not required to stand there and roll your coin for you.
Sorry, but it is not cost effective for any bank to have people stand there and roll $50 in cents!
And, actually, the tellers work for the bank, not for you. A bank is a private institution and not owned by the depositors, unless it is a mutal bank.

    Paul,
Divide the money made by the hours spent, and you are getting a pretty penny for rolling coins.
I'd fly down and roll them all for only half per hour that you are making.

Whatever happened to Customer Service ;) . I know I would not just dump coins not rolled on a teller. I think them tellers hate doing savings bonds also. :goof:  :goofer:

I'm going to Bama and search all the rolls I can get lol. Imagine all the Wheaties! Man that would be something to look through those cents! Imagine the possibilities. I reroll coins myself, cuz there is no free counting machines here. The only one I know of charges 9 cents every dollar. Let's see. $500 in halves. That would be about.. $45! whoa, That adds up. Good luck on finding one that does it for free!

I bought a small coin counting machine from someone on E-Bay. It counts pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, halves, and Sac or SBA dollars. It works great! Plus, after the "tubes" get full, they are very easy to put into the paper rolls.

You can try that here in the heart of the Ozarks as well, and they will run your deposit through a coin counter. At their convenience. After hours. And charge you a % of the deposit to do so. Send you the deposit receipt in the mail. So yes, you can walk in with a bag full of halves and the teller will deposit it.

Now, to the original posters question... or issue...
Look for a local bank or credit union. Someone in Jacksonville offers this service to their account holders. I have an account at a local bank just because of this option to account holders. That is the only thing I use this bank for.

I don't know if it's a regional thing or what but I can go into any of the banks in town, even the ones I don't have an account at and plop a bag of coins down and they'll run them through their counting machine without questions. I have had them tell me once or twice that the machine didn't work at that moment but they offered to count it when the machine has been repaired and send me a deposit slip. I usually know when they are done because I can just check it online.

If my banks gave me all the grief that some of you guys get at your banks, I'd have dumped them long ago. With all the fees they charge and lousy CD rates and interest rates they pay, they should be good for something. If that something is counting my change, too bad for them.

I agree with you if customer service is bad I would not bank there. We have Commerce Bank here in NJ and I do not belong to the bank but have used there free counter. One time I dumped almost 10,000 cents on them.

I have found it to be very regional- I recently moved from Iowa, where every tiny bank had a coin counter and anyone could generally use them free of charge, to Maine where only one or two banks have coin counters and one even charges its customers 9% to use it!
