93........1921 was a very fine year. Started collecting when the new "wartime nickels" came out.

It appears that the average age on this thread is much younger than coin show attendees!!!

I'm a little surprised and pleased by all the younger collectors on the site.

Welcome to CT! A great place to learn and discuss coins. Also a great place to see people argue about things that are very subjective!!!

I wonder why that is. You always see the old geezers complaining that us young whippersnappers aren't interested in the hobby, and that all they see are old people out there. But this website seems to lean more towards the young side.

I've been attending coin shows for over 50 years I can assure you that the average show attendee's age hasn't changed a bit. Most were in their 50s/60s in the 1960s just like today...and they had the same complaints about how judging from show attendance there were no young people appeared to be entering the hobby. Nothing has really changed other than the fact that I am now one of those average attendees.

Sort of like popular music--today's is obviously crap compared to when we were young...just like our parents said about the music we listened to in the 1960s...just like the swing that our parents listened to in the 1940s according to their parents...just like the ragtime their parents listened to in the 1920s, etc.

Well, there's the stereotype that younger people are more inclined to spend time in online communities, although I'm not sure how strong that effect really is. It's also possible that this particular site is more welcoming and supportive to younger collectors than some other collector-oriented sites.

39, been collecting for about 27 years and been going to shows since I was in my mid-20's. honestly, I don't see younger people at many of the shows I go to, although there are a few. But when I go to the big ones I see many more children.

I'm 67, but have only been collecting coins for 7 or 8 years. I collected a lot of other old stuff before that - musical instruments, pocket knives, hand tools. I've never been to a coin show.

In my 30+ years of collecting I never been to a coin show either. Ben to coin auctions before was finally getting online and seeing stuff at ha stacks etc and coin dealers inventory that got me real serious again. Many coins I wanted such as a flowing hair dollar and a chain cent etc I never seen for sale local in all the years I colldcted. I'm still looking for a chain cent just gotta be the right one
