If I were going to use a throw-away Ebay ID to do that I wouldn't mention to anyone that I was the owner of that ID. :p

I tried to read through some of the auction to see the point in the whole deal and think I found a translation.
what he is trying to say is.....Give me your money and I will give you worthless scraps of paper that you can not buy goods or sevices with, and I will make money with yours untill such time as you wish to cash them back in to me (if I'm still around) and after I take out my conversion fees and other various expenses you will have much less money than you started with. If by some chance somebody does give me thier bank account info, then you will brobably never hear from me again.

I think that about sums it up.( and with far fewer words than they used):thumb:

I read some of the stuff on their website, it's all technical-sounding puffery. Total load of bull honkage.

I don't see where it violates anything there. That law specifies (a) "...with intent to defraud..." and (b) "...are intended to be used unlawfully or fraudulently...". I can't see anywhere that Millennium Dollars are sold as being legal tender money or are intended to be passed as legal tender money.

Granted, you may get ripped off by the company (such as they refuse to exchange them back to US dollars), but that won't fall under a law that seems to prohibit counterfeit currency.

    My question to the seller:

"Is it ok that I remit payment in used Millenium Dollars and/or Liberty Dollars to pay for this item?"

Think i will get a positive answer? lol

They'd probly accept the Millennium dollars, since they can be reedemed for more than 1 USD each. It doesn't seem to be possible to redeem Linberty dollars (they say they'll redeem a few a day, but they don't seem to guarantee anything).

FlyingMoose - I argue points of law in court, not in coin forums.

At the very least, IMHO, a Wikipedia article that claims to be an unbiased comment on something should mention any dispute about the legality of subject matter.

I find it interesting that you believe that the website is a
but nevertheless are trying to favorably publicize the scrip.

BTW, if the US Secret Service responds to my reference of this stuff to their local field office, I'll share that response with the forum. ;)

I said that because most of the text on the site is trying to sound important but isn't really saying much, and some of the stuff doesn't make sense. It sounds like the pseudoscience stuff you can find.

Anyway, I don't know where you get the idea that I'm trying to publicize them, I did put criticism in the Wiki article. However, I'll say that I like the idea better than the Liberty dollars, not that I'd buy either one (except possibly to collect, not as an investment).

I like the idea of alternative currenciies and I get excited when I find out about one that I didn't know about before.

Well, amazingly the seller DID respond to my question that I had mentioned earlier. The response:

The current rules of the auction state that the MR$ must be paid for in U.S. dollars, since we need USD to purchase the inflation-adjusted assets backing our currency. While we will not accept Liberty Dollars, we may consider your request with used Millennium Dollars (i.e., our currency) for subsequent purchases; but the first purchase must be in USD.

Certainly, it is obvious that you will generate a spread by buying new MR$ at the auction discount, and then paying for them with used MR$ at or near the indexed value. If we elect to do this; then we trust that you also understand, that there is a limited number of times that we can permit you to do this with each initial USD investment, since we cannot adversely affect the inflation-indexed assets set-aside to back the MR$. To propose otherwise, would be impossible.

In addition, you must agree to spend your net MR$ with third parties, or retain them for future use; or this would not work for us as a promotional event. We will assume that you have read and fully understand the current terms and conditions under which we off the MR$, which will remain in full force and effect; unless otherwise changed in our agreement with you. Finally, any terms we commit to in an agreement will apply only to you and not to any third parties; unless we specifically enter into an agreement with them.

In essence, this amounts to our sharing our profits with you for your promoting our currency by ultimately spending it with third parties, which we are willing to consider. Due to this added expense, the USD would be invested in first mortgage(s) on real estate. Finally, if we determine that such an agreement would violate any eBay rules, or any laws; then we could not enter into such an arrangement; but we foresee no such problems at this time.

If that doesn't prove an intent to issue their garbage with an intent that it be used as money, what would?
