Hello. That's the first time I come across a Roman coin whose Emperor has moustaches. The coin weighs 8.5 g. Could you please help me identify the name of this Emperor?
A very nice coin, by the way. The portrait is clear, and the detail in the lettering and wreath are excellent. These Antioch coins did the hardest work in everyday commerce, and many examples are in positively dreadful grades.
Btw, there is a beard there too, just harder to make out. Look at his chin, that is the beard protruding that far out, not the actual chin.
Thanks everyone. That oval shape under the letters SC on reverse, is it a Greek letter that represents or symbolizes anything ? It used to be Delta or Epsilon.
It looks like theta to me, but I don't know the meaning of those marks on Antioch coins. Are they a denomination? Regnal year? Control mark?
JA. Does control mark mean mint mark or something else? I'm sorry, but that's the first time I hear of a control mark. Charles
