Estimate the grade: 1964 half dollar

I've told the story before, but this half dollar was found in our old house when we moved out. It was underneath some built in drawers at the end of a hallway. Apparently it was customary at the time to hide coins in houses when they were built (our house was built in '64.) When my mom gave it to me, I saw the patina on it and assumed it was a low grade coin, but now that I know a little more about grading coins I know that it's possible that it never was circulated. I obviously haven't sent it off to get it slabbed, but I might do it one day because the coin has much sentimental value to me. What grade do you think it would receive? I have absolutely no idea. It could be VF or it could be MS as far as I know.

The "patina" you mention could be the result of outgassing from the built-in drawers. In any case, I don't think it would be worth having it graded. You would probably be better off putting it in an AirTite or self-slab.

    It's in a 2x2.

There seems to be a consensus that it is circulated. But how much? Is it a VF (A rhetorical question) or an AU or somewhere in between?
