cool coin ... ummm, I'm pretty sure that the reverse is actually a biga/quadriga (a couple/few horses pullin' a cart ... it should/could be rotated 90 degrees) hi
It's a Constantine "hand of God" AE similar to this: CONSTANTINE I AE4 OBVERSE: DV CONSTANTI-NVS PT AVGG, veiled head right REVERSE: No legend, emperor veiled to right in quadriga, the hand of God reaches down to him, star in top centre Struck at Constantinople, 337-340 AD 1.39g, 16mm RIC VIII 39 I paid $20 for this one. I cannot make out the mintmark on yours or I would be able to better define your coin.
Divus Constantine AE3/4. 337-340 AD. 15mm, 1.5g OBV: DV CONSTANTINVS PF AVGG, Veiled head right. REV: Constantine in quadriga right, the hand of God, upper center, grasping the chariot, CONS in ex. REF: RIC VIII Constantinopolis 37
I have a few ancient coins but my interest is in classic coins although I collect modern and world coins too.
my coin was full of a white substance like bing's coin above and I used electrolysis to clean it. Is this a recognized way to clean these coins and not receive a details grade
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! If your coin looked like mine, the substance is a sandy patina and is highly desirable. Never should you use electrolysis. There are better ways to clean coins even though they take longer and require some patience. If you follow along on this forum, there will be plenty of hints on the best ways to clean coins. Just what sort of classic coins? Personally, I collect Greek, Roman Republican, Imperatorial, and Roman Imperial . Do these qualify as classic to you?
Ancients are classic but I should have said US Classic coins, I really like seated liberty and bust coins. I have a good lot of Morgan dollars. Actually, I like all of them, each coin to me is a little story.
every time this happens a fairy dies. but seriously....don't do that please. having stuff on the coin like bing's is good for the ancient coins. I like to collect a little bit of everything also, got a nice morgan dollar setting on my desk I've been admiring the last couple weeks. glad to see you ancients section.
