    It looks more like the coin has been spooned or was in the dryer for a bit.

    I do redact my dryer/spooned coin until further debate. It does look odd.

    this coin was formerly an encased coin, similar to a lucky penny..........

    I'm thinking the reverse is from a worn die, a lot of the shield cent have the same issue, with the rim !!

    Looks like an encased coin in the past to me.

    (Richard, sorry I couldn't spend some time with you at the MSNS show, as you could tell I was being pulled in 20 different directions that day)

    The reeding was erased and the edge deformed outside the mint.

    After seeing the new pics it does seem like a previously encased coin.

    same as i said earlier. it was once encased in a ring like the lucky penny tokens the ring is pressed around the coin which makes the rim look like that.

    Lucky token (encased) coins have an edge that is concave in vertical cross-section. This edge bulges out. So it's some other form of damage/alteration.

    Mike, I'm checking out the mad clash site, can I get you some of my die clash coins, I don't know what the turn around times is, or how busy you are, some will be good for some articles too !!!
