2007 Buffalo Fractional Coins

I can understand Dragon. I guess I should count my blessings. I've never used their customer service so I can't comment. I just order it and it gets here when it gets here. Delays are not unexpected. I've haven't had any experience with over selling either. I mean I ordered my gold sets, silver sets last year, unc ASE's and even a couple unc AGE's. I ordered then when they went on sale and didn't wait until there was a wait list and I haven't been disappointed yet. I know friends who tried to order stuff long after they should have and were disappointed but I just think they missed the boat and are crying just to cry. I even had a couple of ASE sets that were scratched up a bit. I just sent them back and within 10 days the replacements arrived.

I think if you know when stuff comes out and jump on it at that time ..things have a way of working out. It's when you are the last to know or wait around thinking it over that you end up on the losing end. Like with the 2006 W unc ASE. I know guys that said I'll wait and see. While they were waiting, I was buying and I got mine and they didn't but they think they should have. They cry and blame the mint like the other mint bashers but really ..look in the mirror before you start pointing fingers. Opportunity knocked but you were slow to answer the door.

I hope things work out better for you in 2007. Just get ready to order when those fractional buffs hit. The proofs will be pretty but I'm going for the unc sets. I'll also be first in line when the platinum anniversary set get released. I bet that plat reverse proof will be a stunner like the other two have been.

I love the ASE, Hope it stays around for a while longer!

I like the idea of a new family maybe like the Indian head or Morgan dollar or American Coins of the Past. I hope it is not just a different coin each year as that will not build loyalty to any one design. The ASE has shown how a nice design can be very popular for an extended period of time.

You are absolutely correct with many of your statements. However, if you order something on-line from a website, do you expect to receive it if it shows it is still available for sale? I know many businesses would not last long if they sold more products than they had available. Only the airlines seems to get by with it, but sometimes they do try to accommodate you. The Mint allows you to wait 5 months knowing they oversold and never bother to tell you that the probablity of getting the product is zero. You are lucky you never use the customer service as my experience is that a large majority of them have no clue and give inaccurate, false information. That's the customer service aspect I am referring to. If the site says they are sold out and someone still attempts to place an order, then they know there is a probablity they won't get the product. That is not always the situation with the Mint lately. Up until last year, I had zero complaints with the Mint.

Having said that, I agree with your comments regarding the upcoming products they are going to offer. I hope they have learned some lessons from last year. I will say the 20th Anniversary Silver Eagle set is spectacular and I expect the platinum set to be just as nice. I did not get a gold set, but I have seen them and they look awesome too. I imaging I will be with you on the first day for the buffalo fractionals as well.

ND - how do they determine the focus groups? Do they pick random collectors who order from the Mint? I would love to give them some opinions on designs/options for future products.

 

I hope they change the design so this was only a two year deal, will make those of us that bought look smarter hopefully.
