    I don't know.

Comparing an MS coin with an obviously well circulated coin could be a little tricky.

From someone who buys and sells and collects these coins... I am 100% positive that is a fake.

From what I've seen of people posting fakes of this particular type... it appears the counterfeiters did a very good job of getting a transfer image of the design, but left out the date so that they can add different ones later on. This is an old method that goes back to the mid 1800's. Unfortunately the technology has been streamlined to the point where they no longer need to do this, and therefore eliminating the most obvious "tell".

I see what you mean, but the date here is incused so it worked for me...I guess I always start out comparing what the coin should look like in a mint state...and go from there...

Obviously books are the first line of defense, buy the book before the coin...but what other ways did you learn in comparing fakes and forgeries to an authentic piece?

You can trust my brief "poorly crafted date" statement, or force me to recount that which I have already described in detail in another thread sometime in the past several weeks regarding another similar fake. Suffice it to say, the date in this case was crudely hand engraved into the transferred die.

I told you that I do not know about these particular coins which is why I am asking for something a bit more concrete than simply "a poorly crafted date" which sounds more like an opinion instead of an absolute fact.

The counterfeit silver coins I have seen had obvious quality flaws along with known inconsistencies with specific devices which did not appear on authentic coins.

Unfortunately the image is now gone but the 27 in the date were misshapen and they were noticeably larger than the 19 in the date.
