Hello I'm hoping someone can help.

My husband has recently been passed down a box of coins and medals, and inside we found this Swedish Krona with part of the date missing.

Today we took it to a coin dealer and he told us that the coin is from 1973 and it is indeed a genuine misprint, and that he had never seen this before with this particular coin.

I was wondering if anyone could help us get a little more information about it, or whether anyone else has had Swedish coins with misprints?

Sorry about the quality of photo. I'm happy to get them scanned in if anyone wants to get a closer look.

    Thank you!

Thank you for your reply Kentucky.

Do you think that the coin would have some added value given the missing date?

Even for US coins, these kind of errors usually raise the value only slightly unless they are really dramatic or somehow attract public interest. Don't think this would be worth more than one without the error. Let's see what others say.

First, welcome to the neighborhood, Rose!

For US coins, grease-filled dies are very common. I can only assume that it is the same for foreign coins. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of Swedish coinage will chime in.

    Welcome Rose!!

    Cheers

... yah, it is always a pleasure to hear from female collectors (sadly, you female-folk seem to be a bit of a rarity in our uber-geeky hobby)

Agreed, probably a partly filled die. Don't expect much in terms of value. ;) As for the year, the missing digit may also have been a 6. The 1973 coin is copper-nickel; the 1963 coin is silver (Ag 400, I think). Below the king's portrait on the other side you will probably see a U (mintmaster Benkt Ulvfot). If you have a "TS", that would even be a 1953 piece (mintmaster Torsten Swensson), but that is less likely. And still not worth much ...

Another interesting thing with Swedish coins that every king has had a personal motto. Gustaf VI Adolf's "plikten framför allt" you see here means something like "duty above all".
