NY post offices are known to be pretty bad, some worse than others. Sometimes its just a worker playing tricks with the tracking to cover his tail. Hope the coin turns up.
It's a Thanksgiving miracle! The Doson tetradrachm arrived. Baldwin's initiated a trace on November 11 but I never heard anything more from them or from Royal Mail. On a whim I checked USPS earlier this week and it had finally popped up! The stamps on the envelope give no clues as to where it was between October 7th (Baldwin's took two weeks to get the darn thing in the mail ) and November 13. On the latter date it was stamped as arriving in the wrong country. It took another couple of weeks to work its way through the system. Hopefully a coin I won in the last Nomos auction will be released from Customs soon. It disappeared into that black hole a month ago and apparently there is nothing that can be done about random delays in Customs. I've had a run of bad luck with shipping recently. Between the inexcusable delays in shipping by the auction houses and unaccountable delays in transit, I'm in a state of chronic disgruntlement waiting for coins. Roma has been particularly bad for me lately. They've taken ~2 1/2 weeks to get my coins in the mail for the last two auctions. It takes another two weeks for the packages to arrive. If they could only all be as speedy as Pecunem...
I'm really glad for you TIF and glad that coin did not get lost in the proverbial black hole. It would have been a shame to lose such a nice, beautiful and detail coin.
Good to hear it arrived. Wish 2 I bought from Lanz last year would surface but fat chance. Trade I did recently was to canada and the package got here on the 26, it was mailed the 19th. Usually takes two weeks and I was floored when my part of the trade came. I have something else coming from UK but with the snow crap on the east coast, I hope it doesnt affect it's arrival, its actually pretty special.
tha's awesome, i had a good feeling about this one. hey, people in a stock photo, did you hear TIF got her lost coin?!
Good to hear everything has worked out OK with both coins. International shipping can indeed be a pain in the backside. I've only had one package gone missing in over 10 years - shipped by Lanz and lost in ISC NYC. Ever since then when I see a package hit ISC NYC I get nervous, no matter how many get through successfully.
