Dansco album question!

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by SCDigginWithAK, Nov 27, 2014.

  1. I have a Dansco album and the pages corners have separated from the main part of the page. Should I use a tape or glue to fix this? If I do use a tape or glue would they possibly affect the coins (any chemicals which would be in it)? By the way, any other suggestions would be great since the coins won't stay in.
    Thanks,

Elmers white school glue. Be sure to leave room for the slides to still work.

I think at that point I'd just buy a new album.

I'd try Larry's suggestion of Elmer's white school glue.......heck, you can eat the stuff.

Dansco does make replacement pages, but make sure you can find this exact page...

If just a repair is what you really want, then some "archival-grade and acid-free" paper adhesive I think would work. But I don't see why Elmer's "Glue All" wouldn't work just as well.

  11. Well I would do all of that but it's a Type Set album haha. I tried superglue but my biggest fear was any chemicals spreading to the coins. But I will try the Elmer's since it shouldn't have any harmful chemicals. Thanks y'all and happy thanksgiving!

I have used the Elmer's type white glue on my own, with success. Just be careful. Follow the old glue lines and do not overdo it with too much glue. Let the glue dry completely before inserting the clear plastic slides.
It wont hurt your coins, because they never come in contact with the glue, anymore than they did the old glue before it lost its adhesion. That is why you are being careful not to use too much glue, and to let it dry thoroughly, so it does not over spread its boundaries and become a problem.
I too, have Dansco type, and the albums are now almost as valuable as the coins in it.

    Is Elmer's glue inert?

Not sure if it goes with turkey, but one of my more impulsive friends put some on a cracker and ate it. We were horrified, as he explained that the label claimed it was safe to eat. But, not as horrified as he was when he could find nothing of the kind on the label.
He survived, with only a minimum of brain damage, and lives a nearly normal life.

Don't know if its inert, but the coin never touches it. The coin edges touch the cardboard, and the coin surfaces are covered by clear plastic slides

That doesn't do much if fumes affect the coins.

I agree Ken. I've been working on an album series that sort of combines danscos and air-tite albums together and can't work out the details of materials quite yet. Just tired of my pretty coins changing color while I'm not looking.
