Hi everyone I was going through the penny jar today when I noted something on the canadian 2006 penny. There are two versions. One is the normal queens bust but the other one has what seems to be a small crown under the queens bust. Does anyone have any info on the reason for this?
Ive tried getting pics with my crappy camera and always blurry. It looks like a crown with a circle around it. I found 6 of them in the jar. I also have several coins I wanted to ask about including George VI 1941 half dollars..in mint shape. 1936 George V half dollar several Kennedy half dollars 1943 tombac victory nickel 2 Eisenhower dollar coins..one with eagle, one with liberty bell. 1951 Sudbury nickel, 1939 beaver nickel 2 Washington quarters with drummer on back 10 1963 canadian half dollar with queen elizabeth 1971 british columbia dollar coin 1973 PEI dollar coin 1969 canadian dollar coin with canoe 1982 canadian constitution dollar coin 1984 canadian jaques cartier dollar coin 1939 george V dime 1888 canadian lrg. cent Also 8 uncirculated 1973 canadian one dollar bills 1867-1967 canadian centennial dollar bill 1953 Jefferson 2 dollar bill Will keep trying to get pics..grrr
well alot of searching but I think I found the 'crown' answer. http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/July2006/24/c8507.html Here's a pic of the mark... http://canadian-numismatic.org/2006mint.php oh and at work yesterday, I got my hands on a whole roll of 1943 Victory nickels someone turned in
there are 3 circulating versions, 1st with no mintmark or P, which is copper-plated zinc, 2nd with a mintmark, which is the Royal Cdn Mint logo, which is copper-plated zinc, and 3rd, with a mintmark, but is copper-plated steel (so its magnetic). There is a 4th, a CPS with a 'P', it was struck for sets, but they over-anticipated sales of these sets (marketed towards Grandmothers, etc, looking for Christmas gifts at the post office for little Johnny) and had such a surplus they decided to just send them off to be rolled and put into circulation. The numbers arent offically out yet, but here is the order from HIGHEST to LOWEST mintage: 1: No mintmark or P (CPZ) 2: Mintmark (CPZ) 3: Mintmark (CPS) 4: P (CPS)
Twiggs, welcome aboard. You will learn a lot here.If you are collecting Canadian coins, you could teach some of us,me included, about Canadian coins. I picked up a 1929 silver 50c. coin a few weeks back.I had found it in a lot of silver coins at work. Aidan.
i'm not very good on forign coins but the kennedy half dollars are worth 50 cents unless the have are from the dates 1964-1970 (silver), they have a S mintmark (proof), are from 1987, or if they are 2002 and younger (not issued for circulation. the eisnhower dollars are worth $1.10, so keep them. the one with the moon and bell and has 1776-1976 is a bicentinial and is worth $1.10. also, the bicentinal quarters you got are worth 25 cents, but keep them because they are getting harder to find. also, the 1953 $2 bill is also worth keeping. i'm not sure on the price, but more than $2!
1929 (month unknown) The Deputy Master of the Ottawa Mint decides to melt all silver coins on hand, to be reminted with the current date. 480,392 50c pieces, dated 1920 and 1921, are melted. [661.123] [172.124] looks like your 1929 had a previous life..lol
looks like the 1953 $2 bills are selling in uncirculated condition for $11. circulated ones would probaly sell for around $5.
thanx this one has definitely circulated but isnt in too bad a shape. My dad had it in his collection. He had another old old bill but unfortunately stupidity got ahold of his brain and he laminated it
