I have this quarter, Ive had it for a long time, and before that it was my grandfathers, he was a very mentally ill hoarder and I found all sorts of weird and rare things.... some coins were in there.... and there was this quarter, It looks as if it was only half printed on the back only, where the head would be is a mound of what seems to be quarter..... Is this a mistake worth cashing in, or was it just some weird thing my Schizophrenic grandfather kept...?
First, welcome to the neighborhood! I don't think it could be a capped die, but it's hard for me to tell without viewing the coin "in hand". It looks like someone may have poured molten metal on it. Chris
Welcome to Cointalk It's almost impossible for us to determine if it is an error made by the us mint or someone's clever creation from the photos.
Given that it seems to be rounded and bulging outward, it looks like someone melted lead or solder on the obverse face.
I can see the serrated edge and what is on top of the coin is convex. Maybe, you can weigh it and take a photo of the egde for us?
you know a nice side view of this quarter would provide lots of info---I think something was melted onto it-jmo
