OK, here's an odd question or two.

Do any of you collect items related to the coins you collect?

If yes, do you display them together in any way? Pictures please.

The attached piece was given to me by someone who could not find a buyer for it. I am going to work on collecting the other Polish coins that have this ship on it. Then I may find a way to frame them together.

Not realy with coins as I am a country collector more than a theme collector, but I do with some of my medals. With those that I can attribute (Named) I will try to match it up with a regimental Hat/cap badge and a silk regimental crest.

I like to collect things that have ties to token issuers - postcards, advertisements, newspaper articles, or other items with their name on it. I even have a couple of obituaries of token issuers.

    I collect coin related exonumia.
For example: The Guide Book of US Coins" from 1947, plus all special editions.
The Star Encyclopedia, by Max Mehl.
    Other coin books and magazines.
Basically, anything that hits my eye as neat.

Thanks for your answers. I guess I am a little surprise more people don't collect other historical items related to their coins but then again, coins can be a full time hobby as it is.

    Best Regards,

That's somewhat in line with what I am/was thinking. I guess what I half expected is to see some of the people that collect ancient coins or war coins to collect other historical items to go with them. Regional pieces like the tokens from the civil war could be accompanied with advertising pieces from the specific merchants (or something like that)?

    Thanks again

I collect 1st edition books but the only one I have that is remotely related to coins is a 1st edition of Ian Fleming's Goldfinger with a coins in the eyesocket of the skull on the cover. Does that count? :eek:hya:

Only the silly Red Book which has gone goofy lately with editions in just to many types. Soft cover, Hard cover, Ringed edtion, leather cover, etc. I suspect next will be the solid Gold edition.

That's funny. I am glad they have the ringed edition as this makes it much easier to use as a reference.

Now that's what I'm talking about. A collection of coins from the period surrounded by other items that help to tell their story. Collections within a collection. Add complexity that inspires conversation of and beyond the coin. :thumb:

Do you have the coins that match those in the sockets? That would be a fun tale to tell the kids. :smile

Now that I think about it I've been saving those little cards that come with the Mint's Proof sets that explain what they are and have been doing this for many, many years. I've got a pile of them and don't know why.
Also, I noticed I still have flyers and advertisements from coin dealers from back in the 60's. I'm now inspired to throw out stuff like that since it is of no value, not usable for anything, takes up space, etc.
Also, I have about 3 or 4 hundred of those plastic coin rolls empty for just in case and they've been empty for a long time. If I buy a coin and it is in a plastic type flip I save them in a box and have hundreds of them and don't know why. I've just got to start getting rid of stuff like that.

    Just Carl,

Sounds like time for Spring cleaning :) . Good Luck with that. My wife generally takes care of that for me - just about the time I need it. That's ok though, she's the best...

    other than coins

I have been looking at vintage and estate sales for stuff, picked up the framed ones today. Does anyone else find/see stuff like this. Fun deco for the office/coin room.

I don't have any theme'y type things, like some of you, but along with the many series of Coins (by Year and Mint Mark), Proofs and Mint Sets, I collect Books related to or on Coins...

So far, I think I'm up to 12 or 13 books with 3 more on the way... I wonder about checking out some old/used book stores for old Coin Books???

Also, I collect Gold and Silver Bullion... I collect them in 1 OZ Rounds, 10 Oz Bars or 1 OZ Art Bars....

I think I'm up too 50 Art Bars... I bought most of them right before POS hit 18 last time... Then stopped as they got too expensive as I'd rather buy better Numismatic Coins or Plain Bullion at lower premiums... I also have a "Collecters Price Guide to Art Bars"... A new guide is comming out soon, that I'll probabbly pick up to see whats changed...

I collect anything that jumps out at me....that might be a medal....token.....auction catalog....or such.
I have one Auction Catalog from th e1930's....and alot more from the 70's-90's....they are fun to look through. I also have a growing Library of coin books with some of them being signed---Thanks to one of the "Franks" here I just got my book... "The Fantastic 1804 Dollar" by Newman and Bressett signed by Mr. Bressett....I had bought the book a few months ago and it was signed by Newman but not Mr Bressett....it is a really cool book and I'm glad that I could have it signed by both writers!
