Here's the sum total of my coins from Tranquebar. A sad pair of corroded little coins denominated as 4 Kas. I only rarely see Danish India coins at all these days and when I do they are in much the same condition as these ones....and often worse. The first is a 1763 copper 4 Kas of the Danish Asiatic Company (KM145) The second is an 1837 copper 4 Kas when it was a Danish Royal Colony (KM159.1)
Ian,Danish Indian coins have always been difficult to find. They were issued right up to 1845,when the Danish Indian Settlements ended up being sold to the British, just like the Dutch Indian settlements were. Aidan.
It's really tough to get nice Indo-Danish copper coins and most of the time you see these coins in the same condition. The weather and surroundings of Tranquebar is not favorable for copper coins. On first coin, the monogram 'DAC' is visible to identify this as a 'Danish Asiatic Company' issue. The last two digits are not clearly visible as that area is heavily corroded. On second coin, the last numeral in date looks more like '2' rather then '7'. You have coins from some really tough series issued in Indian sub-continent. Thanks for sharing. Regards Ballabh Garg
