I see a lot of ugly coins which just suffered from bad times. These were ugly right from the mint (but i think they are kind of cute):
yeah...ugly...but cute. 7C...i don't think those coins are ugly at all, i like 'em. collect...that is a scary story.
7c, i'm pretty sure your first is a caracalla of antioch....i think you second is a macrinus also of antioch. please get a second opinion on those from one of the experts here.
Thank you very much C71. You are encouraging me to post other coins of this type in this thread. By the way, did these series of coins which were marked SC have any mint mark ? What are these tiny marks under the 2 letters SC ? Charles
i'm not sure what they signify 7C. the mark below the caracalla isn't a letter, i believe it is an eagle. i think this is your marcinus, a similar one a vcoins with attribution.. http://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/rom...nus_ae22_of_antioch_syria/237703/Default.aspx
Ugly due to the black that refuses to come off and the die clash on the reverse. Considering how cheap I got it and expensive she tends to be, I am OK with it. Aquilia Severa (221 - 222 A.D.) AR Denarius O: IVLIA AQVILIA SEVERA AVG, draped bust right. R: CONCORDIA, Concordia standing half left, sacrificing from patera in right over lit altar, double cornucopia in left, star left. Rome 221 A.D. 19mm 3.2g RIC IV 226, BMCRE V 184, RSC III 2, SRCV II 7679
Here are another couple related to the same series of my presumed uglies. Hope you could assist me to identify them..Lol ? Charles
Those are both from Antioch, Charles, but I don't know the emperors. Some of them had very similar portraits, like Geta and Caracalla.
Something attracts me to this RandyGeki coin: I know it's pretty sad but something draws me to it. I collect coins from leprosy colonies so that might have something to do with it.
