Coin World announced today that the mint will offer a new 2014 3 coin Kennedy set starting 12/16 for 24.95, No word as to which design will be used, apparently the non 1964 design? The set will include a circulation D-Mint, an uncirculated P-Mint and a proof S-Mint. Did the mint outdo itself this time with the lamest duplication of coins in a set?
Perhaps. But then, maybe someone will screw up and include one of the 50th Anniversary Coins in the set thereby creating a crazy rush rarity like they did with the Birth Year Sets of 2012 where a 90% Silver Kennedy was included instead of the CnClad version?
Sounds like they're trying to creatively re-sell the horde of leftovers in a new packaging to fool people into buying a product they didn't want the first time around.
U.S. Mint ready to launch sales for two 2014 coin sets in special full-color packaging options New offering incorporates three Kennedy half dollars Coin World 11/14/2014 "[...] In addition, at noon Eastern Time Dec. 16, the Mint plans to introduce a brand new product, the U.S. Mint Coin Discovery set. The 2014 Coin Discovery set, priced at $24.95 with no ordering limits, will contain three Kennedy half dollars with different finishes — one each from the Denver (circulation quality), Philadelphia (Uncirculated Mint set) and San Francisco Mints (Proof). The set also includes an educational booklet about the coin production process, coin tubes, a magnifying glass, and cotton gloves."
all these three coins are kennedy clad half dollar not silver. so the kennedy proof clad is coming from the same with those making the clad proof set. the kennedy uncirculated is coming from the same with those making the mint uncirculated set or the two coins set selling at $9.95. and the circulated one is choosing from the rolls or bags with better quality one. i would put the last one as a $0.50 piece. at $24.95 a set. this set is quite expensive. since 2012. there are no mint products that really serve as a good investment. the last one is 2011 american eagle silver dollar five coins set.
You may want to add the hawaii and acadia collector pucks to this list. The mint, clad proof, and silver proof sets from 2012 have also done quite well.
Uncirculated for Mint Set and Circulated for Rolls and Bags....is there really a difference in these two?
I still like the circulated 1964 silver half dollar. Cause I can touch it, fell it, and play with it.
As I have five sets in an unopened box, I watch the value quite closely. I have market value at $575-$600 based on ebay sold auctions.
if you have $1,165.00 to spend. which one you would choose?. 1 set 2014 kennedy 3/4 oz gold proof. ebay average $1,075.00 11 set 2014 kennedy silver four coins set. ebay average $120.00 x 11 = $1,320.00 117 set 2014 kennedy clad two coins set. ebay average $22.75 x 117 = $2,661.75
well you can buy it at u s mint for the same price at $1,165.00 for those three options. the different is you get i set of gold, 11 set of silver and 117 set of clad.
Hmmm. While rummaging through old threads, I found this one! And...................... It sounds like someone got their wires crossed because this isn't a "3 Coin Kennedy Set". Its the "Coin Discovery Set"
