I wanted to share the $5 Rainbow that just came in..it was worth the wait and I just scanned new images of it...

I have always admired the notes from 1869...so I thought if I fell off into a trench (groove)..it might as well be a deep one...there are plans for a mini set of these over the next year or 2..we shall see..thanks for your reply.

Yep. All sorts of symbols were used in the serial numbers of large-size notes; this series happened to use a star. The star didn't indicate a replacement note until 1910. See here....
