WARNING: this thread will have some non coin content!! If the moderators want to move it thats fine. I braved the elements this weekend to go to a coin show about 50 miles away this past weekend to pick out a few new Morgans. The whole state (Iowa) had freezing rain and snow. The freezing rain played havoc with trees and power lines. I managed to add three new morgans to my collection. Nothing special, but I got three more holes filled. I got a 1878 7 tail feather w/parallel arrow feathers, a 1883 s, and a 1886 o. I was going to post sooner but the electric was out from saturday till tuesday afternoon. A little hard to access the internet with no power!
one more saturday most everything was covered in ice then by sunday we had a couple inches of nice wet snow on top of it. There were trees and powerlines down all over town. There are some streets in town that are still blocked with downed lines.
more We are going to get hit again today with more Ice and snow. Luckily they have changed the forcast towards more snow and less ice. I hope we don't get it to bad, I have a coin aucion to go to this weekend. I hope to find some good deals but I'm not holding my breath.
OK that looks COLD Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr Im of back to my warm bed LOL Lovely Morgans though :thumb: De Orc
more Morgans Thanks, I hope to pic up some more Morgans this weekend. Nothing I need, But the way I see it, to many is never enough, although my wife may dissagree.
todays buy I went to an auction this morning that had a couple dozen Morgan dollars. I was able to pick up one for a reasonable price. The other coin were either harshly cleaned and polished or the other bidders wanted them much worse than me. Some of the coins were baddly worn and cleaned but were selling in the $17 and $18 range. There were a few nice coins but the price was a bit high for my taste. here are some pics of the coin and some snow I had to get past to get to the auction. By the way, the tire tracks aren't all in the driveway, I had to go through the yard to get around the drift!! All these drifts from just 4 inches of snow.
Your not alone Viper. Chicago got that nasty weather only hours later and it wasn't well received. Luckily our power didn't go out. BTW- nice coins.
A few morgans to go I really enjoy collecting Morgan dollars and reading about them. Some days it's hard to keep my focus with all the other great coins out there. I counted today and I have 65 different dates and mint marks, if I counted correctly that leaves me with 36 to get. Unfortunatly I have some of the heavy hitters to fill most of the remaining holes. It may me a while before it approaches completeness. In the mean time I enjoy the hunt.
Nice Morgans. As nice as they are, I'm not sure they're fitting enough reward for braving those weather conditions. I hope you enjoy them.
Yea I'm kink of stupid when it comes to driving in bad wheather!! Here are a couple of my nicer Morgans.
The recent snow and ice here in Central NY has delayed trips for me to the coin store. I have only seven Morgan's to go including the 3 heavy hitters.
great That is great that you are that close to completing the set. I hope you get those last three aan let us all know when you are done.:thumb:
