I recently picked up a 1oz Silver Art Bar (the Pit and Pendulum) and am thinking about getting some more, but I cannot find any information on them? Can anybody help? They appear to be some kind of series from the 1970s labeled Horror Classics, the Hollywood Years.
Guide books for art bars are not easy to come by and asking prices for the out of print books are usually high, but there is a guide book called, A Complete Guide Book of Silver Art Bars. If you can't buy one, you could try to find someone on a forum or go to a local coin dealer or coin show and ask if anyone has a copy to share the information with you. If you are an ANA member you might check to see if the ANA Library has a copy, too. On this site/forum, are listed many different kinds of silver art bars, showing there are some 20 bars in the Horror Classics series. (scroll way down to find the citation). It suggests they are listed in the "Guide Book". Of course you can watch online auctions for these items and contact those Sellers for information about the bars they are selling. Use the Contact Seller link and ask them questions mining for info they may be able to provide. From there you could perhaps glean enough information about the bars and build your own little database of images borrowed from auction listings. Here's a 1973 Jack the Ripper bar on eBay. Listing suggests its 187/200 pieces. Here's Mr. Hyde, showing the same limited number.
Thanks, Krispy. I really needed to know the name of the mint that made em, and the link you sent me told me that, well, and knowing how many there are helps too, in determining whether I want to chase a set (like I need another set to chase).
No problem. Hope you return to the thread and post some pics if you manage to get some examples for your collection. Good luck.
