i tried looking up any information about a die break but I can't seem to find anything on this coin. Has anyone seen a FE like this before? Does this add any value to the coin?
You should contact BJ Neff at cuds-on-coins.com about this one. I'm sure he would like to list it, and he would be able to use your photos. Nice find.
Where does one find a cud book? I typed in the info above and I still get nothing. I checked the cud on coins website and they don't have it listed.
I bought it in about 1980 it is called THE CUD BOOK By Sam Thurman and Arnold Margolis. NLG, a supplement was out in 2001 and I am sure their are more now>
If possible try to contact Frank Leone, an error specialist. He did publish a book on Sam Thurman's cud collection.
Die cracks and breaks were pretty common with the Flying Eagle cents. Rick Snow's "The Indian & Flying Eagle Attribution Guide" does not have this one among the dozens of others. Send him this photo and see if it's a known die break. He has studied these coins and all the die varieties. He runs Eagle Eye Rare Coins in Tuscon, AZ http://www.indiancent.com
reply back from Rick Snow's website "That's a neat die break. It is a die sate, not a die variety, so it doesn't get a variety listing"
