Check it out, is this real or not? Looks fake to me but I'm not a gold token collector and my only indication is that the word "Dollar" is not on it. I think 1858 and beyond had the word "Dollar" on it, am I wrong about that? Also, the seller is new with a 100% fb score but only 19 sales. If you look at his other for sale tokens, all of them look fake to me, am I wrong?

All of the genuine pieces have a denomination on them as D, Dol, or Dollar

Check out what happened. I knew the token was fake and the seller just confirmed it for me. Quite a riproff, oh I mean an attempted ripoff. This is just a heads up. rolleyes.gif This was me asking a question and what followed.

    Q. Hey friend,
Great looking California Token!! Was it acid tested for gold content? Thank you

    A.

Yes the token holds up to 14k acid. Its between 14-18k. This is a rare type made late 1800s. I have 2 others listed of the same variety. You can certify these coins, i just sent a bunch of the same variety to ICG.

I took the coin down because i think it would better to get it certified. I would still sell it but the price would be $90.

I have stayed away from California gold because of all the warnings about fake. My question is this. What was it about the coin that made you believe it to be fake. I would love to add one to my collection but I don't buy certified.

I don't think I'd buy one off of feebay unless I knew the seller or it was slabbed. As far as the seller selling fakes, I felt he had two listed that were fakes. The 1858 should have had something like, 1/4 or 1/2, Dol., Dollar or something. Also, his fb score and amount of sales told me that he couldn't wait to get out of the bullpen, so to speak to sell some fakes. I will continue to watch his posterior cause I bet he tries it again, probably next month. laughhard.gif
