I am looking for what the minimum value a dealer would give you for a 1921 morgan say at a grade 50? I have a bag of 100 of these and I know they are worth more than melt when looking at the shape of them. Just curious if anyone knows what a dealer would give for these. Approximate values. Thanks
1921 morgans are the most common there is. Unfortunately, 1921 morgans in any condition up to very high MS are in fact only worth melt. Good luck!
I was curious because all I look at is pcgs coin values and the lowest they say is $21 because isn't melt right now around $13?
That is why I was asking. I am new to this stuff and was curious what they pay compared to pcgs prices . I have a couple graded pcgs cc Morgans and they value them at $550. What would a dealer pay for them? And is melt around $13 right now?
Melt is about $12.15 for them at the moment. You might get $1.00 above melt from a dealer. I'm sorry to tell you that you wouldn't get around $21 for them unless you sold them individually on ebay and had a lot of patience. I've never sold on ebay, but I understand there to be a lot of costs associated with selling coins there. Good luck.
Not true. In MS 63, ALL varieties of the 1921 (P, D, and S) are a $70-80 dollar coin. Grades above that jump up--in MS 65, one has a $200-400 coin. So don't generalize, just because it was the most common date, with large mintages. Mid grade MS coins are nice, and high grade MS ones can be expensive. I'd sell them privately if they were MS. If not, melt would be the situation.
Check a place like APMEX. You will see what they are selling for and what they are offering to buy them for. These commons in AU will follow silver up and down. You will get more for them if you sell them privately. APMEX is selling bags of 100 1921's for $27 each. That is double melt. They don't have a buy price listed right now. You should be able to find a non dealer interested in these around $20 each.
Provident is offering $15.24 each for "cull" Morgan/Peace dollars, minimum transaction $1000. If you're selling a bag of 100, that would be over the threshold, although it wouldn't be enough for them to offer you a better price.
Ask what bid is right now, and give the exact grades, someone will help with prices. expect 10% back or more (back) unless they are very nice.
Generalized questions get generalized answers, I guess. I wouldn't pay over melt for a 1921 Morgan in au50...
Some might only pay melt, but you'll be able to get nearly 18-20 bucks a coin (for legit AU+) if you photo them right and have just a little patience. So my advice is to take some solid pictures, and offer them here in the B/S/T section, then if you don't get any takers, throw them on ebay. I would not settle for melt, unless I was desperate.
Wow -- looks like you did really, really well. I wonder if the dealer just has a lot of customers clamoring for them, or if some of the coins were nicer than AU? Wish I could find a dealer like that around here!
I bet they will last in his store a day or two. He most likely has someone on file that buys all AU and better Morgans when they come in. They are selling for $25+ so he must be ok making almost a 20% profit in a day.
