Here's the other coin I got at the Baltimore Whitman show. PCGS MS-64 RB. Coin is redder than the image shows. Either I adjust my camera settings, change the lighting or learn Photoshop. Oh, and only two more IHC's to go for completion (not counting the error varieties).
Do you know what pilfered means? If he pilfered it he stole it and therefore it did not cost him anything. I seriously doubt he stole this cent even if figuratively speaking. You are talking about a very large quantity of common modern pretty pennies here.
Some folks might moan that the price is on the high side, but in my opinion you paid a really fair price for an uber-tough issue with fantastic eye appeal. You not only picked up a difficult coin, but purchased one with built-in liquidity given its eye appeal. I think you did really well.
Yes, the price is on the high side if you look at the posted catalog values. BUT The dealer I buy from selects ones that are in the upper part of the grade range. I suspect a high percentage of my IHC's would earn a CAC sticker or one of Snow's decals.
And that hairline above the date and reaching over to the "U" is a die crack. I haven't check the coin out yet to see if it's list by Snow.
