Thank you for your service and may God bless you on your deployment and especially this Veteran's Day! Your post made me remember a PCGS MS-65 San Diego half that came to me through the FPO while I was serving aboard the USS Harry S Truman. I though that I would have had to wait until I was back in port but it arrived while we were underway. As for the Seated Dollar, I would not be surprised to see a similar coin in a PCGS holder even if dipped. I have a Trade Dollar graded problem free VF-25 by PCGS that is definitely dipped and have seen other circulated dipped coins with straight grades. From what I have read on this forum, the TPG's have been a lot more willing to let this type of thing slide for the earlier, more difficult series. This would make a lot of purists cringe but personally I don't see why light dipping and other cleaning is so bad. If the TPG's decide that it is market acceptable then I'll go along with the crowd. I just can't stand coins with damage even if PCGS says its okay. Your coin looks great in that regard.
Overdipped but otherwise problem free I agree with the xf grade tho I might say 40. Wouldn't be a coin for my collection as I like surfaces and to toning but if you can live with it. Hopefully it will retone I'd be tempted to put it in a Manila envelope for a couple years
Thanks Mainebill. Should have given an update but had been busy. After much thought I decided to keep the coin. Struggled, but in the end I want a full 7070 and don't feel bad about breaking this out of the holder. I think I will put it in a Manila envelope like suggested. It has almost full liberty which will match my other seated coins and when I really can afford a trouble free one I would like it to be in a good holder and I won't crack it out. So this was a good coin for my purpose. Plus, I really want a high quality MS Barber Half. ) Thanks for all the help!
