Mostly what I have is 60's-00's cents. I have some (almost) filled Canadian cent whitman folders from what I've found in circulation. The rest I've just been holding on to since I didn't know what to do with it. It really isn't enough to do anything with at the moment. I'm gonna try to put a roll of cents through the coin counter tomorrow just to see if they go.
Canadian cents before 1997 will go through most coin counters. The zinc examples up until 2011 will also, but the steels get spit out.
I roll 1c 5c 10c and 25c back into rolls that I'm returning. They all trade at same as face value for USA coins. They are common in our area since we have lots of Canadian snow birds come in for the warmer winter weather. All our local merchants treat them like US coin. I do love finding a "twoney" in my halves, since it is worth $2.00 Canadian. I take those to the farmers market where I sell my dates and other farm goods and when I get a Canadian customer I ask if they will accept it as change and they usually do. Nice markup on a $0.50 buy for the coin. On the other odds and ends, you can sell them on EbaneOfMyExistance and let them take 10% of everything including shipping and then let PayPal grab another couple of percent for taking credit cards. or you can try a free site like webstore.com which is free. Webstore may take longer since it has less traffic but it will sell.
I LOVE CANDIAN COINS as well as ALL foreign coins. Send them to me! I live in the Chicago area and get at least a roll of Canadian pennies from every bank bag I search. But I have buyers and traders who love my foreign coins. Drop me a message if you need help moving your coins.
I love them too. I just have been piling up all the extras I've picked up from CRH'ing If I had infinite funds I would keep them all.
That is so sad. My son and I collect Canadian as well as US coins. We are especially into nickels. I'm afraid there won't be any good ones left due to the meltdown.
